B’ville to host October carp angling tourney |

Baldwinsville offers anglers a new opportunity to competitively
reel in carp during the Red Mill Inn Fall Carp Classic.
“This is a fun way to promote B’ville,” said Mayor Joe Saraceni. “We’re
focusing on a resource we have come to realize is a huge asset to our community.”
Held from Oct. 22 to 24, the lure of this first time event will be larger monetary
rewards with an anticipated one-in-five chance of pocketing a cash prize, as
well as a much less grueling schedule than the community’s annual 50-hour
North East Regional Tournament held each May.
Registration will be held at The Red Mill Inn Thursday Oct. 22 followed by two
days of competition in which two-person teams will toss in their lines from the
shore of the Seneca River. Competitors must be at least 18 years of age or 16
if accompanied by an adult. Each team is allowed a runner of at least 16 years
of age who may assist with bait preparation and run errands.
Oct. 23 and 24 begin with a morning peg draw to assign teams their fishing locations.
Competitive angling takes place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.
Following the first 10 hours of the 20-hour catch and release event, a break
allows anglers time to enjoy the amenities of the local community and rest up
for the second day of competition.
“The reason we came up with this format is because we listened to the fisherman,
their requests and suggestions. We also wanted more of an economic impact from
this tournament,” Saraceni said about the Red Mill Inn Fall Carp Classic. “This
way [anglers] are out enjoying Baldwinsville establishments.”
Pre-baiting peg locations will be allowed each morning from 7:30 to 8 a.m., but
is restricted two weeks prior to the event.
With an expected 25 teams, prizes will include $6,500 for team total Big Four
Weight and a $1,000 single Big Fish Award. At the beginning of the tournament,
all teams are randomly divided into five-team groups. Excluding the overall Big
Four winner, a team will catch $500 for their group’s total Big Four Weight.
All participants are eligible for various door prizes and additional gifts.
Anglers will net a grand prize of $25,000 if their Big Four Weight exceeds 140
pounds.
“While this feat may appear difficult to accomplish,” said Jason
Bernhardt, a member of the local planning committee, “past Baldwinsville
tournaments have shown that with the size of the carp caught from the Seneca
River it is surely not impossible.”
The Baldwinsville Fall Carp Classic entry fee is $500 per team with registration
and payment due Oct. 1. Further details and registration forms can be found at

The host committee welcomes business and individual support, both financial and
in-kind. Sponsor benefits include recognition throughout the entire event with
awards ceremony participation at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
